YEAR 5

Dear Parents and Students,

Year 5, we have moved to a new room and from interactive board to interactive TV which everyone is enjoying. Some students have come back ready to learn and are really putting in the effort to try their best at all their work. This term, we are writing narratives and learning about convict settlement and its impact on Australia. Maths has gotten a little harder than last year and students now have their own calculator for some tasks.

Year 5’s have a diary this year which goes to and from school every day, in the diary they record their reading but also their homework. Our class will have Mathletics and Reading Eggspress homework every week. They will also be expected to complete any work they don’t finish in allocated class time at home as homework. They will write in their diaries and have 2 days to complete this and return to me. Parents are required to sign the diary once a week on the parent signature line. When students fail to bring in their diary or complete their work, their parents will be contacted.

The school recommends parents login to SEQTA regularly and check for messages from your child's teachers. In SEQTA, you can also check all of your child’s recent assessment results and see how they are progressing. Your child also needs to have their hat at school, a drink bottle and a good lunch and snacks, many students are finding their lunches aren't enough.

Earlier in the term, I sent a message home for headphones to be uses at school for hygiene reasons. Thankyou to those who have sent them in, the students are excited to use them.

Regards,
Mrs Victoria Kelly
